Fira de Barcelona closes the first half of the year by boosting its international positioning as the host of high-profile technological shows and congresses. In this regard, it plans to close 2023 having hosted over 20 events in this sector bringing together some 210,000 professional visitors and 7,500 companies to the Gran Via, Montjuïc and CCIB venues. Looking ahead to the autumn, it is already preparing three events with a worldwide scope: Smart City Expo World Congress, Gartner and VMware Explore.
During the first six months of the year, Fira Barcelona hosted 18 technological events, including trade shows, congresses and corporate events. Highlights include the Mobile World Congress Barcelona which, together with 4YFN, attracted 88,500 visitors and more than 2,400 participating companies, and the ISE, with more than 58,000 professionals and 1,055 exhibitors, which was held in parallel with the IoT Solutions World Congress Barcelona and the Cybersecurity Congress, organised by Fira de Barcelona and which together received more than 15,600 visitors and 330 companies.
The Montjuïc and Gran Via venues also hosted the e-Show Barcelona, the fair on e-commerce and digital marketing; Spring I/O, the conference focused on the Spring Framework ecosystem; ITC Europe, the largest insurtech event in Europe, and Affiliate World Barcelona, the meeting on affiliate marketing and e-commerce.
The Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB) also held congresses and technology summits, bringing together nearly 11,000 professionals. Among them: Gartner Supply Chain Executive EMEA Congress; HPE Technology and Solutions Summit, the corporate event of Hewlett Packard or KingFoMarket, the annual meeting of this multinational video game company.
A tech autumn
The calendar of technology shows will come back strongly after the summer with the holding of four events in the sector with a global reach. The first two will be Gartner It Symposium XPO Emea, the meeting of analysts of this technology multinational, and VMware Explore, the global corporate meeting of one of the world’s leading cloud service providers, which will take place from 6 to 9 November at the CCIB and Gran Via venue, respectively.
At the same time, from 7 to 9 November, Smart City Expo World Congress will arrive, the international must-see event on cities and smart urban solutions organised by Fira de Barcelona, which this year expects to bring together more than 1,000 exhibitors and 25,000 professional visitors, together with Tomorrow.Mobility, the show that promotes the design and adoption of new sustainable urban mobility models. Tomorrow Building, on innovation in construction and Tomorrow Oceans, a congress about the blue economy.
Medical congresses
Technology-themed events and medical events are two major strategic areas for Fira Barcelona, in which it has a clear international positioning. Accordingly, this year the Fira venues will host more than twenty shows and congresses in the field of health, including Infarma, the medicine and parapharmacy fair, the World Parkinson’s Congress and the World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer that took place this summer; the CPHI, the largest global event for the pharmaceutical industry and EUSEM on emergency medicine, which will be held in the autumn, among many others.
